LHS to host 2011 Fall County Cheerleading competition!

2011-2012 Pre-Season Meeting:  All future Lancer cheerleaders welcome!

  • Leigh Cadle from Frederick Gymnastics Club to present information on and provide sign ups for off season tumbling clinics.  Clinics are optional but highly recommended for conditioning and strength training.

2011 Fall Tryouts

***All new students interested in trying out for cheerleading should email coach Cafarelli at nicole.cafarelli@fcps.org   Include name, grade, and contact email/phone number.

  • Official date: August 13th & 15th
  • 13th- learn the cheer/chant and practice
  • 15th Double Session: AM learning (8-11); PM tryouts for judges (2-5)
  • We will do our best to have the girls finished in a timely manner, but after judging, tallying of scores, and preparation of letters we anticipate that dismissal time will be approximately 5pm.  Please plan accordingly that it may be earlier or later.

Tryout Information:

All participants must have a physical exam and all relative paperwork on day of tryouts.  Teacher recommendation forms will also be a factor in overall scoring for tryouts.  Cheerleaders are expected to perform the following functions:  learned chant/cheer as group and individual, Jump set (double toe touch and choice jump), tumbling rotation (varsity members must have basic tumbling to be considered for the squad), coach’s interview.  Members may also be asked to perform 1 stunt, flyers to pull heel stretch and scorpion on ground.

Requirements for Varsity members:  (flyers) variety of extended stunts, including heel stretch, scorpion, and/or scale.  Special consideration given to more advanced skills, bow and arrow and/or chin-chin.  Flyers must be able to twist from an extension/prep level stunt with instruction on double rotations.  Special loading skills, special consideration given to 360 loads.  Flyers must also be capable of performing basic level basket tosses, including a toe touch, kick, and/or pike.  Special consideration for multiple trick baskets including ball/star, pike/arch, kick/full.  Advanced trick consideration: kick/double.  (bases)  experience basing a variety of extended stunts with special loads.  Optimal arm/leg strength training.  Specialty loads and tricks including a 360, tiktok, express, and/or press/drop.  Basing experience with cradling rotating dismounts (full/double).  Basing and cradling experience with basket tosses.  (tumbling) Varsity members are expected to have basic tumbling experience.  Given new scoring rubric for competition, advanced tumbling increases chance of making varsity.  Special considerations may be made at coach’s discretion.  Basic tumbling includes a standing back handspring.  Advanced tumbling tricks include standing/RO-multiple back handsprings, standing/round off back tuck, layout, full.  (jumps) Varsity members are expected to have mastered a minimum of a double russian.  Members should also be capable of consecutive jump sequences without preps, and jump to tumbling rotation.
